How to Rent Heavy Equipment

Follow American State Equipment Company tips and best practices to ensure your equipment keeps running at 100% all year long.

Tips for Being Prepared to Rent Heavy Equipment

Companies rent heavy equipment because they are looking for a cost effective, hassle free way to complete a wider range of jobs. To make the process go as smoothly as possible, follow these tips and best practices for renting from American State Equipment. We have a wide range of road building, construction, and demolition equipment in our fleet.

Rental equipment delivery or transportation

When renting from American State, you can either pick up or transport the equipment on your own, or we can deliver it right to your job site for an additional cost. For delivery, all you have to do is provide the location and agree on a time and date for the equipment to arrive. If you are transporting the equipment on your own, please provide adequate notice prior to pick up, so we can expedite the load out process.

Rental equipment insurance

We require that companies have insurance before renting from our fleet. It is the renter’s responsibility to provide proof on insurance prior to taking delivery of any rental equipment. Your insurance provider will provide a rider for the given replacement value of the piece of equipment which is stated in the American State Equipment’s rental agreement. Proof on insurance is required for all rentals and must be received prior to the shipment of any equipment.

Contract for rental equipment prior to executing a rental

Review the rental contract carefully to become familiar with the customer’s responsibilities associated with the equipment rentals. For example, items like shears, hammers, processors, and mills have additional charges based on wear that you need to be aware of. The rental agreement also calls out important information concerning your responsibilities while the equipment is under your control. If you have questions about any of the information in the rental agreement, be sure to ask your sales representative prior to signing any rental agreement, so we can resolve any issues before you rent the equipment.

Damage responsibility for rental equipment

We ask that you treat our rental equipment as if it were your own. Machine abuse or negligence can lead to additional fees, as can excessive staining or cosmetic damage necessitating additional cleanup. If the equipment is damaged while you are using it, be sure to document the damage and immediately notify your insurance carrier and your American State Equipment sales representative.

Credit approval and payment

We require credit approval before renting from our fleet. Before choosing which type of equipment to rent, we ask that you have an acceptable payment method ready. If you're not sure whether you have sufficient credit, your sales representative can provide a credit application. Complete and return the application for our review and approval. Once approved you will have the ability to rent equipment based on your allowed credit, or you can choose to prepay the rental using a credit card or other means of payment acceptable by American State Equipment.
